Submitting The Mind To God (Part 4)

Submitting the Mind to God (Part 4)

Many Christians do not continue to learn and grow in God’s Word as they physically mature, causing them to remain “babes” in Christ. Can you imagine trying to put back on the infant clothes you once wore as a newborn? How comfortable would that be?

Just as those clothes were for a particular stage in life, so is the importance to continued study so that you may show yourself “approved unto God-a workman that needs not to be ashamed, “rightly” dividing The Word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15). We cannot rightly divide The Word of Truth if we are not saturating ourselves in it and growing. We can’t mature in Christ without being intentional with study. Our secular knowledge does not assist in our formation of who we are in Christ, according to His Word. (Romans 8:5-6)

We are not only called to the study of God’s Word, but to the “hiding of it in our hearts,” aka: Scripture memorization. This is how one best matures in God’s Word and affects others for the cause of Christ, as He shows us when and where to use those Words that we have hidden in our hearts (thus affecting our mind) at any given moment in time.

I like to take Scripture that stands out to me, write it down on a 4x6 card, read/re-read it to myself. I carry it with me throughout the day, looking at it until it’s memorized. I keep reading it until it’s ingrained. It’s incredible what God does with that kind of diligence and discipline to His Word!

Where would you be today in knowing God’s Word if all the Bibles were taken away? How much it could you hold on to& claim because you had committed it to memory? God’s Word is our bread! It’s our lifeline! It is what keeps us from continual sin. (Psalm 119:11) ?

PRAYER:

Jesus, you are our very Breath. Our Food, our Living Water, our Shelter in troubled seas. Where can we go, that You cannot be found? Fill us, Lord, with the desire to crave the sincere milk of Your Word (1 Peter 2:2), that we may grow thereby and have a right relationship with you that affects others in Jesus’ Name, I pray, AMEN!
